What spices do we use in this healthy sautéed cabbage
Although it’s an old recipe, the sautéed cabbage is still a great dish. You will need:
Ingredients:
- Oil
- Cabbage
- Bay leaf
- Cumin
- Salt and pepper
- Sugar (or sugar substitute like erythritol or monk fruit sugar) (optional)
- Cider vinegar

Cider vinegar enhances the sautéed cabbage’s taste and is mandatory to create a tasty dish.
Adding sugar, on the other hand, depends on the cabbage itself. Some can be more bitter than others. So, it’s best to taste it before you add sugar.
NOTE:
For this type of sautéed cabbage, you can use either white, green, Danish ballhead, or sweetheart cabbage. See the picture below.⬇️




How To Chop The Cabbage
There is nothing easier than shredding the cabbage.
- 1️⃣ Remove the tough outer leaves and discard them.
- 2️⃣ Cut the cabbage in half lengthwise.
- 3️⃣ Slice out the inner core.

How To Make Sautéed Cabbage
1./ Add the oil to the deep pan and heat.
2./ Then, add the bay leaf and fry it for a few seconds to release all the flavours.
3./ Add shredded cabbage and fry for another few seconds, stirring briskly.

4./ Love the temperature, pour water into the pan, add the spices, cover, and cook for 10-15 min, stirring occasionally.

5./ When the cabbage is wilted to your desire, add vinegar and sugar (if needed), stir, and cook for a few minutes.
All done!

Do not throw out the core!
It contains fibres. Most people cut and discard the core. But did you know that you can use the raw core, too? The core of the cabbage is full of vitamins like vitamin C, K, calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.
Here are some tips on what to do with it after you cut the hard, woody part of the core:
- Eat it raw as a snack (it has a radish-like taste)

Ingredients
- 1 medium White cabbage - (aprox.750g)
- 2 Bay leaves
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 1/2 tsp Sea salt
- 1/2 tsp Ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp Ground cumin
- 1/2 cup Water - add more if needed (1 cup is 250ml)
- 1 tsp Erythritol - (or other similar sweetener)
- 1 tsp Apple cider vinegar - (or white wine vinegar)
Instructions
- Cut the cabbage in half, then in quarters. Cut off the core, then slice the cabbage.1 medium White cabbage
- Heat the oil in the skillet, add bay leaves, sliced cabbage, salt, black pepper and cumin. Low the temperature, sear it for 2 min. Add seasoning and water.2 Bay leaves, 2 tbsp Olive oil, 1/2 tsp Sea salt, 1/2 tsp Ground black pepper, 1/4 tsp Ground cumin, 1/2 cup Water
- Stir occasionally and add more water if necessary.
- Once the cabbage is soft, add erythritol and vinegar, stir, simmer for a couple of minutes and turn off.1 tsp Erythritol, 1 tsp Apple cider vinegar
