Do you also like the comfort feeling when drinking hot chocolate? However, most store-bought chocolate powders are loaded with sugar, which is not ideal for a healthy diet. But, I have a solution! This luscious and creamy hot chocolate recipe is the perfect alternative, with no added sugars and high in protein. And the best part? You can make it dairy-free by omitting the double cream. This hot chocolate recipe is not only delicious but also a healthier option that you can enjoy guilt-free.

My story of creating protein hot chocolate

For the “sweet tooth days”, I usually have some keto biscuits, low-carb pancakes, or my favourite flourless lemon cake in the fridge. Also, my husband loves a cake with his coffee, especially in the afternoon. But when my youngest son moved out, I was refurbishing his room, changing it into my hobby room, so I didn’t have time to bake anything sweet.

So, I was standing by the kitchen window, watching the rain pouring down and waiting for the kettle to boil. Before thinking, I put cocoa powder and a dash of cinnamon into the mug, poured some hot water and a splash of unsweetened almond milk and mixed it with a spoon. Then, my eyes fell on the chocolate protein powder container. (As you know, I always have at least two protein powder flavours at home, as I use them for baking and after workouts). So I added a tablespoon of whey protein chocolate flavour to my drink, and using a frother, I mixed it up. It was perfect protein hot chocolate, thick but already very tasty.

I used a large mug that could hold 300ml, so I added more hot water to it. Then, to cool it down, I added a bit more almond milk and a tablespoon of double cream. The result was the best protein hot chocolate drink without sugar that I’ve ever had. It tasted so delicious and had an outstanding flavour that left me feeling very satisfied and energized.
