THE BEST HIGH PROTEIN HOT CHOCOLATE

This delicious, creamy hot chocolate free of sugar will satisfy your cravings and warm you up on cold, rainy days.

Do you love the comforting feeling of sipping on hot chocolate? That warm, velvety goodness wrapping you in cosiness on a chilly day? The problem is that most store-bought hot chocolate mixes are loaded with sugar, artificial flavours, and unnecessary additives. But what if I told you there’s a way to enjoy that same creamy indulgence—without the sugar crash?

This high-protein hot chocolate is the perfect alternative: rich, chocolatey, and packed with protein to satisfy you. The best part? It’s customizable—you can make it dairy-free, adjust the sweetness, and even tweak the flavours to suit your mood.

How I Created My Favorite Protein Hot Chocolate

On a stormy afternoon, I stood in the kitchen, waiting for the kettle to boil. Usually, when I crave something sweet, I reach for keto biscuits, low-carb pancakes, or my go-to flourless lemon cake. But that day was different.

With my youngest son having just moved out, I was deep into turning his old room into my hobby space, leaving me with little time for baking. As I stared out the window, craving something warm and chocolatey, I impulsively added a spoonful of cocoa powder and a sprinkle of cinnamon to my mug. A splash of almond milk and some boiling water—so far, so good.

Then, my eyes landed on my chocolate protein powder. A thought struck me: why not turn my simple hot chocolate into something even more satisfying? I scooped in a tablespoon, gave it a good froth, and took a sip. It was thick, creamy, and delicious. A little double cream made it even silkier, and my high-protein hot chocolate was born just like that.

Now, this has become my favourite cosy treat—whether after a workout, as an afternoon pick-me-up, or just as a way to unwind in the evening.

What do you need to make this high-protein hot chocolate

Ingredients:

  • Cocoa powder – for that deep, rich chocolate flavour.
  • Chocolate protein powder – adds sweetness, protein, and an extra creamy texture.
  • Boiling water – to mix everything together.
  • Erythritol (optional) – if you like your hot chocolate on the sweeter side.
  • Unsweetened almond milk – or any dairy-free milk of your choice.
  • Double cream (optional) – for extra creaminess (skip if dairy-free).
  • Ground cinnamon (optional) – because cinnamon and chocolate are a match made in heaven!

How do you make hot chocolate

1/ Add cocoa powder and a dash of cinnamon to the mug and stir.

2/ Pour half the boiling water and a splash of almond milk, stirring well.

3/ Add chocolate protein powder and mix with a frother. (Use a fork if you don’t have a frother, or you can mix the hot chocolate in a blender.)

4/ Top up the mug with the rest of the hot water and just enough of the almond milk to still keep it hot.

5/ Add double cream. (optional)

6/ Mix everything well and enjoy!

💡 Pro Tips:

  • Use a bigger container to prevent spills if your mug isn’t large enough.
  • For extra warmth, heat the almond milk before adding it.
  • Want a mocha twist? Add a teaspoon of instant coffee for a protein-packed, energizing treat!

Sip, Relax, and Enjoy!

This high-protein hot chocolate is more than just a drink—it’s a hug in a mug, a cosy moment of indulgence without guilt. Whether you’re winding down in the evening, refuelling after a workout, or simply craving something warm and comforting, this recipe has got you covered.

So go ahead, take a sip, and let this rich, chocolatey goodness warm your soul.
